Intro & build description
Very smoothly playing build that is great for League start. Prime was playing this build at the beginning of Atlas of Worlds expansion and Lacerate skill felt very nice and it still does. When you get all your gear, you can clear monsters that are even off-screen giving you great clearspeed and survivability.
Build Pros
- Great as a starter build in new league (It costs less than 3ex to fully gear this build)
- Extremely high clearspeed
- Can do all map mods
- Very safe, yet has extremely high damage
Build Cons
- Not the best build for Hardcore

The Bringer of RainOne of the core items of the build. Great news for Legacy league – we will be able to get legacy version of this helmet which is stronger.
Because we use this helmet, we cannot use chest armor for this build.
Gloves
Spiked GlovesLook for maximum life, resistances on the gloves. Ideally if you can find attack speed as well.
For base try to get spiked gloves – implicit gives us more damage.
Boots
Dragonscale BootsOn boots look for maximum life, resistances and as an extra – armor or evasion.
Movement speed is a nice bonus but not required as we use leap slam as our movement skill.
Left Ring
Steel RingFor your ring slots idealy look for Steel Rings with physical damage to attacks (at least 5 minimum damage), attack speed and life. Resistances are good bonuses.
If you cannot afford Steel Rings, choose different bases with same options.
Amulet
Onyx AmuletLook mainly for life, resistances and elemental damage with weapons. Resistances are nice bonuses
Belt
Rustic SashOn belt look for max life, at least 70 total elemental resistance and armor as a bonus. If you can, master-craft increased flask life recovery rate – it’s a hugely underrated mod that makes your life flasks even stronger.
1Hand Weapon
Soul TakerWith Soul Taker you can forget about mana problems.
In Legacy league you will have a possibility to get legacy Soul Taker but it will probably be quite expensive.
Offhand
Jack, The AxeThis axe applies bleed to our foes and synergizes very well with Gratuitous Violence ascendancy skillpoin that we have chosen.
Jewel
JewelsOn jewels look for:
1.) Increased physical damage
2.) Increased Area damage
3.) Increased physical damage with axes
4.) Increased attack speed
5.) Increased damage
6.) Increased attack speed with axes
7.) Increased attack speed while dual wielding
8.) Increased maximum life
Flask
Flask Setup1.) Eternal life flask with increased recovery speed and bleed removal
2.) Bubbling Divine Flask (50% of recovery applies instantly) with shock removal.
3.) Lion’s Roar for more damage and knockback.
4.) Taste of Hate if you can afford it.
5.) Quicksilver flask with increased movement speed and extra charges.
i play hardcore legacy and i want not Jack, The Axe for offhand so i want shield. What else can you advise?
This is not the best build for Hardcore I’m afraid, perhaps we will make another lacerate build later on specifically with Hardcore in mind.
Yo, loving this build man. Can I ask why you left the gems at on the offhand at those specific levels?
It’s mostly a matter of preference – LVL6 Cast When Damage Taken (CWDT) procs pretty often and lets us level linked gems up a little higher than lower lvl CWDT therefore improving their effect. I personally feel that this setup had great balance of CWDT proccing frequency and other skill gem effects.
You have Ancestral Warchief in your gloves which costs mana, but you dont have blood magic in your gloves. It cannot be used.
How are you using Lacerate then?
He’s under the same impression that I was under prior to setting this up myself.
I didn’t realize that Ancestral Warchief works with the Soul Taker unique passive, basically I didn’t realize that it was a melee skill.
PS: I’m sure it’s similar to Rings but you didn’t put an Amulet up on here. π
Soul Taker?
Right, forgot about that π
Amulet?
Yes, thank you for pointing it out – Amulet somehow slipped past when making the build – added now.
Cheers. Also you might want to add grabbing the mana leech nodes and speccing out of them once one can afford soul taker.
Love the build so far! Thanks man. Mine has turned out to be a real glass cannon. Hitting about 97k fully buffed. Good at farming low level maps, but I struggle with being too squishy. Anyone else experiencing this? Have to mention I lack a lot of gear still. Started a few days ago.
For a few days that’s a good place to be in – now just focus on getting some gear with as much hp and armor as you can while capping resistances and you should be good. You can optionally get Granite Flask with increased armour + Basalt flask combination for huge physical reduction and switch out Flame Golem for Enduring Cry – Endurance charges will help you with survivability as well.
Yeah, I need to farm a lot of currency for that. As a temporary solution I bought an Atziri’s flask to help with life leech and increased dmg. A “killing things faster than they can kill you” philosophy. That flask bumped me up to almost 119k dmg with buffs. I’m curiouos to see where I’ll end up when I aquire Soul Taker and min/maxing the rest of the gear. How much hp do you consider ok for this build? I find my hp pool to way too low. Sitting at a mere 4.1k life sucks. But resistances are capped though!
Just run low maps as quickly as possible – I personally farmed around 600 alts and 600 jewelers in a few days doing that and it’s possible to get pretty good gear with that currency :). Yup, that’s a lot of damage and perhaps you can sacrifice some of it to get tankier – endurance charges, armour, granite and basalt flasks and you should be good.
For life you should be aiming for at least 4.5k – 5k and having as much armor as possible – get armor + life on jewels, get armor on belt etc.
That’s what I’ve been thinking too. I’m going to keep farming the low tier maps and aquire currency, the rest of the items I need, e.g. good steel rings, a better amulet and Soul Taker (which is a bit pricy at the moment). Then I’ll see where it takes me!
I’ve done merc lab so I do gain some endurance charges through kills via the passive from ascendancy. I’ll look into basalt and granite flasks.
On another note, have you tried this build against some of the end-game content yet? Like the guardians, atziri, shaper.
Definitely try out the Flask combo, I don’t know what would I do without it.
This build is not meant for facetanking stuff so it can be a bit rough in fights where you cannot dodge big hits. You can take down Atziri, Uber Atziri and Shaper with this build but those fights depend on your dodging and fight knowledge. But in general yes, regular Atziri fight is piece of cake, haven’t tried Shaper bit killed Hydra last league.
I will try out that flask combo! What are your recommended flask rolls for those? And which ones do you have/replace when using them?
Myself I’m using the two life flasks as recommended, anti-bleed and lightning, a quicksilver with charges + freeze immune, lion’s roar and atziri’s promise.
I’ve noticed! I did the three first labs in one try by playing safe and dodging, and hitting Izaro when I could. Still lacking the remaining uber trials for doing the uber lab.
I will keep your experience in mind when fighting those bosses. Thanks!
i’m curious as to how you hit that, because at level 84 even with soul taker and jack, 5 frenzy charges, lions roar and a sulfur flask i’m only hitting mid 80k’s in damage
Jewels. The right jewels + flasks will boost your damage a lot. I got at the moment around 43k damage in town with hatred and herald of ash on. But with full buffs I get around 80k, with flasks I hit around 135k. You should try to perfect your gear and try to min max where you can.
So, your build is focusing on using Axe…
I am confuse, is it holding an one hand weapon + a shield consider = dual wield?
No, it is not considered dual wield. Build requires two 1-handed axes to count as dual wield.
do you have any video for references? I am actually following your build and I can’t even defeat argus on normal at level 33… =/
Here I made a video. its no complete run because its a huge amount of date. But I hope it gives you a feel. – hope its okay to post a video :3

Gems,
How do we use leap slam that requires mana? Add blood magic to it?
That works, yep.
You have any tips for leveling?
Geofri’s Baptism as wepon works very well, Stormheart staff is pretty good as well. Goldrim is good in terms of defense, Tabula for damage.
ty!!!
This is a great build. I am now at lvl 74 and make tier 6 maps kinda good. I just got the Cruel ascendendy. I need some tankness but I will have some points to spend for that.
I have an advice for Bosses or strong Monster. You can use Dual Strike which more than doubles your damage. I killed izaro on cruel in seconds. This only works if you dont have monster around you because you have single target.
I had my problems at the beginning but after you have the lvl for your first weapon its get very smooth. Nice build. He makes really fun.
my bad… I meant double strike. It has an insane Speed.
Noob question, but you’re using haste, hatred, herald of flame, and arctic Armour. This adds up to 150% reserved mana. How did you reduce the costs so that you could toggle them all?
you use “Vaal Haste”, what isnt an aura. Its a spell with duration.
Hmm Got all the items you have recommended and trying to do tier 10-11 maps. Fail. Not sure if Im just too low level or doing something wrong. Currently lvl 76. But this build seems to have no survivability at all.
Also I do not understand the way you have aura’s setup. How can you use Herald of Ash, Arctic Armour and Anger all at once? This would reserve 100% mana so not allowed.
At level 76 you should be doing tier 6 maps at most, in that level you will not gain more exp from T10 than from T2, because there’s no experience penalty yet, look at T10-T11 when you hit lvl 83.
About auras – you don’t have to use them all at once, they’re situational.
Man i made the build and im clearing maps T6 like flash and im just level 70, and what’s the problem about having 100% of mana reserved, you don’t use mana with the Soul Taker axe. i have 100% mana reserved and i can use all skills. you should read the items better to uderstand the build.
Edit to my above comment. Anger is not part of the build so please ignore the Aura question I posed.
Great Build!!!! But my Enfeeble with cwdt doesnΒ΄t work π
Maybe you know why?
Is it possible you overleveled the Enfeeble gem and it is now higher level than it should be to proc?
How to deal with physical reflect mobs?
Try to avoid them altogether.
how can i tell which one is the physical reflect mobs? btw im new comer to the game and i like this build
Found this screenshot for you – http://i.imgur.com/DbD1MI9.png . Physical reflect rare mobs have thorn-looking visual effect around them, that’s how you can quickly tell.
If map has physical reflect mod on it, you will not be able to see it visually on monsters though.
I have question: if cast when damage taken stay at lvl 6
Works it with increased duration lvl 20?
Yes, you can level Inc duration to lvl 20 and it will work.
TY!!!!
OMG this build is so lovely π i just reach act 1 merciless whit 25k dps <3 <3.
Oh i've tested, cyclone instead lacerate, and wepon elemental dmg instead multistrike (could be another better gem than wpn elem. dmg) and dps just going to fcking 40k – lighting strike too, instead lacerate. π
My gear all has at least +80 increased life on every item yet i still only have 3k health.. how much health is this build supposed to have? what have i done wrong?
Try switching some damage nodes in tree for life nodes. What lvl are you? Also get jewels with %increased maximum life.
Do you know how to deal with damage reflection maps? Keep getting totally mashed on those.
I’d suggest skipping those maps, this build doesn’t do well with reflect.
What about lvling? Sry fo stupid question π
Get a mix of damage and defensive nodes and make sure you get best weapon you can – that’s the most important thing while leveling.
Hey, im a newbie to this game, my first character, been loving the build so far, just hit 85. But what do u do with the skillpoints u get afterwards? Anything specific?
I’d get more life or any other nodes that boost survivability as this build is damage-heavy anyways π
