Intro & build description
Great starting build in upcoming War for the Atlas expansion. Build is balanced damage and defense wise, best part is, you don’t need any expensive uniques to get going. Once you get to mapping(endgame) you will have more than enough currency to buy Kongor’s Undying Rage maul. From there, you just upgrade your flasks, gear and jewels with currency accumulated while mapping/farming.
Build Pros
- Great starting character in new league
- Very easy to play, very easy to gear
- Deals massive amounts of cold damage
- With some investment can do all the content in game
Build Cons
- Melee build
Passive tree(s) and Path of Building

Starkonja's HeadGreat helm overall, attack speed, huge life and some crit paired with decent chunk of evasion.
Body Armour
Astral PlateHigh life, high resistances and armor. They come very cheap. Your best bet is to buy Celestial Justicar divination cards for easy 6 linked astral plate and crafting it yourself.
Boots
Kaom's RootsGreat boots, You cannot be slowed to below base speed means you will ignore temporal chains curse and chilled ground won’t affect you.
Left Ring
Steel RingTry to buy or craft ring with % Weapon Elemental Damage, life, elemental resistances. They can be expensive as the league starts. I suggest buying white steel ring and crafting it yourself.
Right Ring
Steel RingLife, % Weapon Elemental Damage, resistances. If you can afford or get lucky with crafting, flat physical damage is great paired with stats above.
Amulet
Turquoise AmuletLife, % Weapon Elemental Damage, resistances. If you can afford, get one with flat physical damage too.
2Hand Weapon
Kongor's Undying RageGreat maul overall, it has built in ”Hits can’t be Evaded” so we don’t have to take Resolute Tehnique keystone which saves us couple of passive points.
Belt
Leather BeltIncreased elemental damage with weapons, life and resistances. If you can afford, get flat armor on belt too.
Jewel
Crimson JewelIncreased life, increased physical damage and increased area of damage. If these are expensive, get life and physical damage paired with stats you are lacking or resistances.
Jewel
Crimson JewelIncreased life, increased physical damage and increased area of damage. If these are expensive, get life and physical damage paired with stats you are lacking or resistances.
Jewel
Crimson JewelIncreased life, increased physical damage and increased area of damage. If these are expensive, get life and physical damage paired with stats you are lacking or resistances.
Flask
Seething Divine Life Flask of WardingInstant recovery life flask which aloso removes curses. Very useful.
Flask
Experimenter's Quicksilver Flask of AdrenalineOur utility flask, increases movement speed on consumption.
loving this build
I will give this build a try, but how will you pierce resistd to make Ice Crash more effective?
Cold Penetration Support and nodes on the tree, for example, Fangs of Frost and Primeval Force.
Is there possible to use a Cast when dmg taken set up since we have gem slots free ?
Sure!
Why are you using Herald of Ash instead of ICe?
Because of overkill damage and faster clearing.
Hey 🙂
I wonder if its worth it to get 20 % quality gems, i now have a 20 % ice crash, warchief and the melee physical dmg sup and im not so good in this math so should i get other 20 % gems ?
Cause when i swapped the 20 % quality melee dmg one it doesnt change on my dps sheet so i would love to get some feedback 🙂
In general, I always use GCP recipe when my gems hit level 20 to get 20% gems. 20% gems outscale 20 lvl gems by level 15 in most cases, not counting spells of course.
What would be the best head enchant ? i noticed that on some bosses i run around like a scared chicken and hope the totem does my work and kill the boss.
Well, they all have their place. Honestly, go for Area of effect if you feel like lacking and need more coverage. I haven’t done the math, don’t know which one does more damage, either 40% increased ice crash dmg or 15% of Ice Crash Physical Damage gained as Extra Cold Damage. Go for either one if you need damage, shouldn’t be huge difference.
why that maul, and not some other powerful 2h weapon?
