[3.15 PoE Build] Eye of Winter Totems Templar (Hierophant)

Intro & build description

Eye of Winter – a skill that a lot of people were anxiously waiting for. This new skill, introduced in PoE 3.15 Expedition is really similar to Frozen Orb from Diablo 2. So for some people of the PoE community, prayers have been answered. 🙂
This particular build uses Eye of Winter with totems, giving us a safe and reliable playstyle. Totem builds are known for their versatility and great performance on a budget, so this is a perfect league starter for the 3.15 Expedition league.

Build Pros

  • Can perform well with limited items, shines with currency invested
  • Safe playstyle
  • Reflect is manageable
  • Good survivability due to Life + MoM, Divine Guidance, and solid mana pool

Build Cons

  • Endgame upgrades can get expensive

Helmet

Viridi's Veil

Excellent and affordable helmet that negates the build’s need for Atziri’s Reflection.

Of course, it comes with a drawback – your right ring has to be magic in order to be hexproof.

This helmet drops from Maven, so it will probably be hard to get early, so use regular helmet with 80+ life and some resistances.

Body Armour

Soul Mantle

A core item for the build, you should try to get it as soon as you can get Viridi’s Veil and negate curses on yourself.

Until then, Tabula Rasa will be more than enough to carry you through.

Gloves

Rare Gloves

Look for rare gloves with at least 70 life and resistances.

A great extra damage mod to have would be increased damage with hits against chilled enemies.

+To maximum mana would also be a good extra prefix.

Boots

Rare Two-Toned Boots

Look for rare two-toned boots with at least 70 life, high resistances and 30% increased movement speed.

+ to maximum mana would be a good extra mod to have.

Left Ring

Essence Worm

Essence Worm is a core item that allows us to use an aura without reserving mana.

Use Essence Worm as your left ring, socket and use Hatred in it.

Right Ring

Magic Vermillion Ring

Cheap but good option to enable Viridi’s Veil.

On this ring, look for at least 70 to maximum life and craft a resistance you need the most on it.

Amulet

The Pandemonius

Pretty expensive, but a must-have amulet for many cold builds, this one included.

Until you can afford it, use rare one with life, critical strike chance/multiplier and other useful damage stats like spell damage or cold damage.

Belt

Coward's Legacy

Great offensive belt, which allows us to benefit from the Pain Attunement keystone for 30% more damage.

This belt has a heavy drawback, but it’s completely mitigated by us being hexproof.

1Hand Weapon

Rare Wand

Look for 2 rare wands with following modifiers:

1.) + 1 to level of all spell skill gems / cold spell skill gems (Ideally both mods, but expensive)
2.) Increased spell damage
3.) Cold damage to spells

Other good mods would be critical strike chance for spells, cast speed or maximum mana.

Offhand

Rare Wand

Same as previously mentioned wand.

Jewel

Jewel Setup

Mods to look for on rare jewels:

1.) Critical Strike multiplier with elemental skills / cold skills / while dual wielding / global critical strike multiplier
2.) Critical strike chance
3.) Increased maximum life
4.) Any attributes or resistances that you are lacking

Build also uses 1 large, 2 medium and 1 small cluster jewels.

On Large cluster jewel, the main notable to look for is Blanketed Snow. Any other elemental/cold damage notables would be good as well.

On Medium cluster jewels, you should get:

1.) Cold conduction
2.) Astonishing Affliction
3.) Sleepless Sentries
4.) Any other damage notable that benefits us

On the Small cluster jewel, get either Blessed or Fettle.

One of the most important jewels for the build is Self-flagellation. Use it as soon as you start using Soul Mantle.

Endgame build uses Watcher’s Eye with +x% to critical strike chance while affected by Hatred. It’s expensive, but provides a pretty solid damage boost for the build.

Flask

Flask Setup

Build uses following flasks:

1.) The Wise Oak
2.) Bottled Faith (if you can afford it) / Dying Sun
3.) Instant recovery Divine life flask with bleed removal
4.) Quicksilver flask of adrenaline
5.) Diamond Flask with freeze removal
