[3.21] Volcanic Fissure Totem Chieftain (STR Stacking)

Intro & build description

Volcanic fissure is one of the builds introduced with the patch 3.20 and it has become a popular choice for totem builds. This build is exactly that – chieftain starter build that uses totems and volcanic fissure as the skill of choice.

The build overall is very good all-arounder, with solid life pool, as marauders usually are, the build can also take down “The Feared” and uber bosses as well, if you have skill for it. As usual with totem builds, you might not zoom through maps, but you will certainly have no issues with any map content.

Build Pros

  • Cheap - perfect for a league start
  • Has options to scale to very high damage with currency invested (Synthesized sceptres, Fobridden Flame/Flesh Jewels)
  • Tanky - 6k+ life, max block through the body armor
  • Can do most content on a reasonable budget

Build Cons

  • Totem playstyle might not be for everyone
  • There are faster mappers out there

Crown of Eyes

This build uses Crown of Eyes in the endgame, due to the amazing synergy between its spell damage increases and reductions mod and Iron Will keystone.

Until you can acquire this helm, use basic rare helmet with high life and resistances, but CoE should be faily cheap to acquire right away.

Body Armour

The Iron Fortress

This is one of the core items of the build, try to acquire it as soon as possible.

Until you do, Tabula Rasa is a good option that will carry you through the early maps.

Rare Gloves

At the core, look for rare Armour or Armour/Evasion gloves with 50+ strength, high life and resistances.

If you’d like to explore more offensive options, attack speed and fire damage against burning enemies are good mods to look for in addition to the core.

Rare Boots

Look for rare boots with 30% increased movement speed, high life and at least 50 strength and some resistance.

Left Ring

Rare Ring

Look for rare rings with at least 60 life, at least 50 to strength and + to all attributes mod and a resistance.

Additional good mod would be elemental damage with attack skills.

If you want to push the build further, look for these mods on a synthesized ring with %increased strength implicit.

Until you can acquire such rings, 2x well-rolled Le Heup of All rings are fantastic for the build.

Right Ring

Rare Ring

Same as the previously mentioned ring.

Rare Synthesized Amulet

In the endgame, you should look for rare synthesized amulet with %increased strength implicit.

For explicit mods, look for at least 50 strength and +30 to all attributes.

Until you can acquire/craft such amulet, you can use Astramentis or rare amber amulet with as much strength on it as possible.

Rare Synthesized Belt

Look for rare synthesized belt with %increased strength implicit.

For explicit mods, look for at least 50 strength, high life and resistances. Good prefix on belt would be elemental damage with attack skills.

1Hand Weapon

Brutus Lead Sprinkler

Brutus Lead sprinkler is our endgame weapon of choice. Get it as soon as you have a few items with strengh on them. Until then, you can just use any high physical DPS 2-hander.

Rare Shaper Shield

On shield, the main mod is 1 additional totem, which is available on shaper influenced shields, so look for that as a priority – shouldn’t be expensive.

Try to get that mod together with at least 50 strength and high life.

Rare jewel setup

On a regular rare jewel look for:

1) Critical strike multiplier / chance
2) Increased attack speed
3) Increased maximum life
4) Strength / Resistances

Build uses 3 cluster jewels, 1 large, 2 medium.

On large cluster look for 8 passives and “Devastator” and “Weight Advantage”.

On medium clusters look for 4 passives and:

2x Ancestral Guidance
1x Ancestral Echo
1x Sleepless Sentries

Unique Jewels

Build uses following unique jewels:

1) 2x Split Personality with strength and accuracy – those are endgame options. Use them in medium cluster jewel sockets.

2) Lethal Pride – used to add %increased strength to notables. Experiment with the rolls – this build uses 16272 Rakiata version.

3) Watcher’s Eye (Optional) – any watcher’s with our aura mods would be useful, but we’d be mainly interested in fire penetration while affected by anger.

Flask Setup

Build uses following flasks:

1) Divine Life flask with instant recovery
2) Quicksilver flask with increased movement speed explicit
3) Diamond flask with attack speed during flask effect
4) Sulphur Flask / Bottled Faith
5) Atziri’s Promise

Feel free to share your thoughts/experiences/tips about the build in comments section below.
