Shockwave Totem is a skill that had been forgotten for quite a while but is now seeing its popularity grow again. This particular build is an excellent sanctum farmer, fair mapper and strong league starter. The build uses Heatshiver, which has been toned down a bit in the previous patch. The helm is still great, it just was broken previously.

Build Pros

  • Excellent league starter
  • Great sanctum farmer
  • With investment can kill ubers
  • Better mapper than an average totem build

Heatshiver was one of the strongest items for pretty much any cold-based build. It has been nerfed in 3.23, but still remains an extremely strong item.

Get it as soon as you can afford it.

Body Armour

Dialla's Malefaction

An extremely good body armor for many spell-based builds.

It will not be cheap early on, but you can easily farm it up while using Tabula or a rare 6-link with life and resistances.

When you get it, make sure it has 3 red sockets where you put Empower, Shockwave Totem and Multiple Totem gems.

The remaining 3 sockets need to be green – put blue gems in there.

Rare Gloves with Cold Conversion

This build converts physical damage to cold, most part of which is done through glove mods.

In the endgame, look for rare gloves with cold conversion explicit and implicit mods, high life and resist or 2.

Before you can get such gloves, use Hrimsorrow for instant 100% conversion.

Rare Boots

Look for generic rare boots with high life, 30% increased movement speed, strength and some resistances.

Left Ring

Astral Projector

This is one of the most important clear and QoL items for the build – this should be the first pricier item you should save up for.

Until you can get it, use rare ring with life, cast speed and resistances.

Right Ring

Rare Ring

Look for rare ring with high life, cast speed and resistances.

Yoke of Suffering

Great offensive amulet for the build, which provides a reliable way to shock enemies.

Before you can get it, use rare amulet with life, crit change / multiplier and cast speed.

Rare Belt with Hunter Influence

Look for rare belt with high life and resistances.

In the endgame, on top of those mods, look for “x% increased Cast Speed during any Flask Effect” hunter-influenced mod.

1Hand Weapon

Rare Scepter

Early on, look for rare scepter with at least 25% increased cast speed, +1 to all physical spell skill gems and 60+ increased spell damage.

In the endgame, you’d want +1 to all spell skill gems and other damage mod on top of that.

Rare Shield with Shaper Influence

On shield, we have 2 mandatory mods.

1) Socketed Gems have 30% increased Reservation Efficiency
2) +1 to maximum number of Summoned Totems

Rest of the slots can be filled out with life, spell damage, spell crit or any other useful mod.

Jewel Setup

Build uses cluster, regular and unique jewels.

In total, 4 cluster jewels are used – 2 large and 2 medium.

On large clusters look for Force Multiplier, Master the Fundamentals and Iron Breaker mods.

On medium clusters look for Ancestral Echo, Sleepless Sentries, Snaring Spirits and Ancestral Reach.

Build also uses several unique jewels:

1) Militant Faith (Dominus version) – used to convert Hex Master into Inner Conviction on the skill tree. Get it as soon as you can buy it for 20-30c.

2) Watcher’s Eye with hatred critical strike chance. This is an item worth saving up for after you have acquired your basic gear.

3) Forbidden flame and flesh with Inevitable Judgement. Get these in the endgame when you have enough currency farmed up.

4) The Balance of Terror – another late game jewel to push the build further.

Build also uses regular rare jewels – on those, look for maximum life, any cast speed mod that affects you and mana reservation efficiency.

Flask Setup

Build uses following flasks:

1) Taste of Hate (Good one to get quite early)
2) Bottled Faith (Endgame)
3) Divine Life flask with bleed removal
4) Granite Flask
5) Quicksilver Flask

Feel free to share your thoughts/experiences/tips about the build in comments section below.
